Frequently Asked Questions
1How Often Do My Trees Need to be Pruned?
Tree pruning requirements can vary widely depending on factors, such as:
- Tree species, size of trees and how close they are to buildings, utility lines, etc.
- Shading & decline issues causing deadwood
- Storm frequency
Mature trees should generally be inspected annually for safety and health. Pruning frequency will generally range from 1 to 3 years.
2Why Is It Important to Prune Trees?
Clearance pruning from buildings and utility lines can prevent costly damage to these structures. Crown cleaning removes hazardous dead, broken and weak limbs. Crown restoration and structural pruning will aid the tree in maturing into a stronger and better-looking specimen. Pruning also helps reduce disease and decline in many trees.
3How Much Does It Cost to Cut Down a Tree?
Tree removal cost varies greatly depending on tree size, location and tree condition. Arbor Pro Tree Experts will evaluate your tree and site thoroughly to come up with an efficient and cost effective plan for tree removal.
4How Can I Tell If My Tree is Safe?
In most cases, a brief evaluation by one of our Arborists can easily decide if tree removal or preservation is the best course of action. In some situations, a thorough hazard tree evaluation may be required to make the determination. Techniques used during a hazard tree evaluation may include truck core sampling, root crown evaluation for signs of decay/disease, and other health evaluation and diagnostic methods.
5Do I Need a Permit to Remove a Tree?
Most cities and towns in the Portland Metro area have tree removal permitting requirements, which are usually based on tree species, trunk diameter, property location, etc. You should always check with your City’s Planning or Urban Forestry Department to determine any permit requirements that may be applicable to your property. In some cases, Arbor Pro Tree Experts can help you with this process.
6Should I Remove My Tree?
There are many reasons to remove a tree, including hazardous condition, disease, thinning stand due to overcrowding, improper location or species choice, construction, etc. Arbor Pro Tree Experts has ISA Certified Arborists, who can evaluate your trees and help with this decision.

Yes, all of our employees speak English.
10When Is The Best Time to Prune a Tree?
For the majority of trees that we encounter, there are no seasonal pruning requirements. There are some trees that have fruiting, flowering and/or disease issues that will benefit from pruning at a specific time of year. You can discuss any questions you may have regarding the pruning of your specific trees with your Arbor Pro Tree Experts Arborist.
11Will You Pay Me for the Wood Value of My Tree Removal?
No, we do not pay for wood value from tree removals. In fact, most of our customers opt to keep the wood from their tree removal for use as firewood. Our specialty is tree services, not wood sales. The only exception would be a Black Walnut tree in good condition.
